Hera Hehr
"An Angel who lived in the body of a dog."
Though Hera may no longer be physically present, she continues to share herself with us, through messages filled with love and understanding ... perspective and encouragement ... hope and guidance. It is her desire to help shift our relationships with our animal companions who may "appear different" or have "special needs," that has been the key inspiration for this site. I feel very honoured to be able to share these messages with you - and perhaps, one day, to help Hera change the world.
This page is dedicated to all the wonderful and important messages Hera has for us. As the "ripples" of Hera's teachings spread out and grow stronger and stronger, may they also continue to touch our lives and help animals have a better life, too.
Please come back to this link often, as Hera continues to share her messages with us.
Hera's First Message ...
The one thing that has always been very important to Hera is the way we relate to animals who are somehow 'different', or have a 'special need.' In her first message, Hera stresses why it's so important to shift our perspective of these incredible animals.
"As someone who has personally lived with "special needs," it is not only my goal to help educate people so that they begin to understand just how I felt, but also to create enough awareness so that no other animal has to go through what I went through. The sadness and disbelief that I felt when I saw how people reacted when they first saw me in my cart was totally unexpected. My initial excitement and pride at the simplicity and ease of improved movement in my life were shattered by unbelievable sadness and humiliation.
Today, I would like you to stop and think of how you view an animal with "special needs", or an animal that appears "different" from the rest of its kind. It is so important not to make fun of animals in these situations by laughing and mocking their predicaments. These are beautiful beings living their lives as best they can... looking for ease and comfort and enjoyment, just as any human might. Animals have feelings too, and the reactions of hilarious novelty cut deep.
I ask that you respect these beautiful animals and help them to keep their dignity and their ability to enjoy their lives to the fullest. They shouldn't have to endure the emotional stress and pain brought on by the unthoughtful actions of those who choose not to see them as "whole," just the way they are. Don't let your actions contribute to their withdrawal from what could be a vibrant, active and enjoyable life.
Remember... emotional pain hurts an animal, just as deeply as it hurts us."
