Activities

To have a happy and fulfilled life, it is not essential to be physically fit. The key to feeling good and increasing the possibility for a physical recovery is a healthy and happy mental attitude.

It is just as important for animals to be happy and emotionally fulfilled as it is for us humans. To help them live this way, there are many great things that you can do with your animal companions with special needs besides going for a walk or participating in an animal sport. Keeping in mind the species and physical abilities of your companions, why not try some of the following activities?

Take a stroll
Animals that have mobility problems still want and need to be outside, so why not get a cart for your animal companion? This way, even if you want to take a long walk, short stroll or a jog, he or she can still accompany you wherever you go without any problems. When we take our cart with us, Hera walks much further. It gives her security and the ability to rest whenever she needs to.

Car trip
Many animals love to go for car rides, just so they can be with us and not have to stay home alone. They also love to see and smell new things, so why not go out specifically for this reason? On your car trip, you might even want to stop at a drive-through and pick up some goodies. My family loves a little picnic in the car.

Picnic
Why not find a wonderful spot where you can hang out with your animal friend for the day, or just a few hours? Try to find a quiet place where your animal friend can relax and doesn’t have to worry about another animal trying to chase him or her. A day in the fresh air and sunshine is a wonderful remedy for the blues. There is nothing as healing and refreshing!

Tricks
Why not start to teach your animal companion tricks? And yes, you can “teach an old dog new tricks”! This is a wonderful thing to do for any animal. Even if your animal companion has mobility problems, you can still teach him or her to count. Or, how about teaching your friend how to point out different colours? This is fun, there is no mobility necessary and it will make your friend feel very special.

Cuddling session
This will not just be a little pet on the head. Make it a very special moment when you cuddle and caress your best friend and let him or her know how special he or she is. Our animal friends give and do so much for us. Let’s tell them how much they mean to us and how much we are able to give them.

There are many other wonderful activities that we can do with our animal friends. The suggestions here are only a starting point.
